Designing a tropical resort typically involves finding ways to tread lightly on unspoiled stretches of scenic landscape. The site of the new Sofitel Bali Nusa Dua Beach Resort offered up a challenge of a different sort. Though blessed with an oceanfront locale, the bulk of the real estate the new resort was to occupy had been home to more than 100 partially completed villas for nearly two decades.
